This is probably the ugliest AK-style carbine ever modeled. It's like someone abused AK with an AR shaped tool, then mutilated the remains.

All those sights on the gun obstruct each other AND you could not mount anything on an AK upper receiver in this fashion because on Kalashnikovs the upper is only a dust cover that literally rattles in place. Your large optic sight will keep no zero if placed there.

Please, dear PAs... Don't do things like this. Google exists. Do research sometimes.

but it sure has that "technical" appeal.

I really like those shoes, https://www.daz3d.com/high-ankle-sneakers-for-genesis-9-8-and-81. But there are no promos that show how they look when bending. Is anyone getting them anyway and willing to post a pic? That'd be great. They LOOK really nicely bendable ...

    something like this?

Looking at the promos, I was shocked at how low-quality everything looked, but maybe I'm misremembering DZFire's other firearm products as being better than they are.

Oh thank you, that helps a lot! Not too bad at all. It even looks as though the shoe laces are not totally fixed in place and maybe adapt a little to the shoe position. But this could just be due to the perspective. Will definitely wishlist the shoes.

The laces don't have a separate bone or morphs to move them, I haven't looked closely enough to see if they are moving based on the ankle bend but I also noticed that they ended up in a pretty good place. They are also separated enough from the other mesh that, for my purposes, I can easily use a dformer if I have them in an unusual position. It was a quick test render but I'm happy with how they are looking!

The models are decent when viewed in Daz, but this one gun really looks like someone tried to tacticool their budget AK with parts from AliExpress. laugh

I nabbed https://www.daz3d.com/xyliara-for-genesis-81-female because the skin/makeup looked like it would suit a few niche faces. Boy did they drop the ball on that. What's supposed to be clossy and in one case multicolored is just generic solid overlay. It's refund time, baby.

Are you sure you can't be persuaded to wait a few months for a fix?

Sure, if I check this product in a few month's time and see on its support page that there's been a fix, I would consider buying it again. But the refund policy is thirty days.

Meanwhile, that's not the only thing borked about it. If you add gloss, it just goes back to the default lips, but with gloss. If you darken the material, everything goes back to the default skin, but darker. Try to use any of the other two face options, you get pale face, dark rest of it. Sure, I could probably tweak it all that way manually, but if you're going to put them in as one-click options, those options should work. They don't. I liked the idea enough to buy it. When it comes with what I like, I'l still buy it.

I will say in its praise, though, that the HD morph that comes with it adds a bit of that slight Hollywood classic sunken cheek to other characters. Like you could make a morph that's almost Audrey Hepburn, add those and it would BE Audrey Hepburn.

I might disagree slightly here. The sights needn't be in each others way. The front one isn't in use, but it probably doesn 't obstruct the laser/rangefinder thing, as that has the optics on the side. The scope might be obstructed, if it was a fisheye lens :p, so supposedly it's something between 1x-5x. And yes, there is a million modding concepts and trials for the AK platform(s), so i wouldn't be surprised, if they modded it to just work like this.

I just moved the laser sight to the side rail so it doesn't obstruct the sight-through battle sight that is modeled underneath the scope.

One problem with this rifle prop is the height of the front iron sight post. The optic seems to represent a red dot, with a 1x1 magnification that projects a red (or green) dot inside the glass, showing the bullet impact point. These are used in closer combat situations to allow the user to keep both eyes open and maintain superior situational awareness. A red dot also has no eye relief issues (the distance your eye can be from the end of the optic and still focus on the reticle). The location of the optic on the rifle prop hould actually be attached to the front rail, or a side mount, because as stated above, the upper receiver cover is lightweight metal and not a stable mounting surface. Typically, the user will co-witness their iron sights in the bottom 1/3 of the red dot field of view. This allows the rifle to be aimed through the glass in case the electronics fail for whatever reason, while causing no obstruction when the illuminated optic is in use. In this case, the front sight post is too low and would be useless, blocked by both the laser and the optic. The front sight could be used as is if the laser were mounted on a side rail and there was a slot in the middle of the optic mount for the user to peer though (also not ideal).

My nitpicks are that the suppressor seems too small for an AK and there is no rear iron sight. No one will go into combat without backup systems in case their primary gear fails or is damaged.

Edit: now that I've moved things around, it looks like the optic mount is a cantilever type that is secured to the front of the receiver and not the dust cover.

Yes, there's a rail hidden uder the scope. Probably not the most solid way of doing it, but... The more I look at the model the more I think it's supposed to be somebody's customized gun. It looks like it was modified for, well... Fashion. Well, people IRL do weird mods because they think it's cool so... Not unrealistic in the end.

My biggest gripe with this set is that only the AK and the shotgun are fully rigged. The pistol and smg are good only as static props.  The revolver is fully rigged, but the cylinder does not swing to the side.

He typically makes great products and the guns themselves look high quality and detailed. The textures seem to be a hair off, but that could be due to lighting. I don't own the pack, so this is just speculation.

  • Suppressor? That can't possibly be a suppressor in those images (muzzle bake?). Laser ... side rail, ok, no problem. A red dot could be 1x.... 5x. 1x may make sense for a pistol, but you could argue that 2x-5x for an AK might make sense, as a close by opponent might just face the happy auto features that the gun migh provide (hipster fire)? It's not a pistol...

The mods on the prop don't come across as Gucci to me, except for maybe the laser.

Now, this may seem a bit like a backhanded compliment. Because it is, really.

I appreciate the G9 Waterfall Hair, To me, the style looks a bit retro & a bit thin around the flyaway curly bits above the shoulders & near the ears.

I have been playing with some old Victoria 3 hairs recently, Bolina Hair is one. I've been trying to make it look less retro, more luxuriant & less thin because the curly bits above the shoulders near the ears are quite thin and flyaway. And then comes the G9 Waterfall hair, which is a vaguely similar style and possibly less luxuriant in the promos over the shoulders near the ears, and it makes me feel so much happier about my efforts with the Bolina hair.

So, possibly a backhanded compliment, but I do rather like it from the way it's made me feel even though I know it's not on my purchase list.

    Regards,

    Richard.

Reminds me of one of my favorites, https://www.daz3d.com/riva-updo-hair but looks too big for the head

That's a nice one too. Could use it on my TriAx V3 too, I have a V4 autofit clone for her too, though the clone is less good for the head than the rest of the body. I've wishlisted it. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Richard

Attention Buyers of the new Mischief hair (https://www.daz3d.com/hs-dforce-mischief-maker-hair-for-genesis-9) - this has a REALLY  high vertex count, especially for a dForce hair that uses curves / omni shader. If you're on a less than top machine, like me, you should test whether you can handle it at all before the return time window closes, just in case. For me, the viewport became almost unresponsive once I'd loaded it in. I could still render it though, and it does look very realistic, so I'm going to keep it. But it's one heavy bugger, and this PA should really work on their optimization processes. Am not buying any more dForce hairs from them for now.

Thanks for the warning. Have you tried reducing the points per hair in the dForce surface settings? I don't own it yet, so I'm not sure what settings it has.

11-thousand something, I don't remember the exact number. I read somewhere else that apparently, the hair does not use any fill-in hairs as would be adviseable, and this makes it so heavy despite the curves.
@barbult, thanks for the tip, I will try this! But I'm guessing since it's wavy at the bottom the effect will not be so good.

Edit: As chevybabe pointed out below, the vertex count is actually 11 MILLION vertices. One should always not just count one's blessings but also the zeros ... ;-)

No new releases, but there are many more PAs  in the Featured artists category today so it might be worth checking the sale anyway.
