anyone else have this problem? ..cannot select by shading domain, Carrara 8.5.1 build 19

I need to be able to select by shading domain. I have 2 win7 64 machines. Old machine has build 8.5 build 243, and it can select by shading domain.

New machine has build 8.5.1 build 19, and it cannot select by shading domain.
This is a big deal. I need to use the new machine.

Anyone else hear of this? Any recommendations?

    Just figured out that resetting preferences solved this problem. Apparently, one of my keyboard shortcuts gave Carrara indigestion.
