Characters with imperfections

First I must say that some characters are amazing, and the makers have put a lot of effort into adding realism such as slight assymmetry, freckles and moles, but in most cases are still pretty much 'perfect' and do not really look like most real people. Does anyone have recommendations for a character creator who does models that look 'realistic' in close up renders with not just the odd mole and HD wrikle, but normal skin that is a bit blotchy, bits of reddening and veins, maybe some tiny scars, cellulite, and so on? Because of the different shader regimes used by different makers, if both G8F and G8M are done by the same person so they work well together without hours of playing with surface settings, so much the better. I am not after old crones, just everyday people in their 20s-50s.

    Maybe this could be useful?

Other than that, you may have to look for products adding certain imperfections to any existing figure of your choice. You could also find skins and such that you like and apply them to the figure of your choice:

Maybe using aging morphs may help some too, Zev0 has such products:

If by character creators you mean PA's who create figures, my most favourite three are Mousso, Lyoness and HID3D. I would also recommend checking kooki99 (for males too!).

You may find Lina HD and Lina HD Older useful too, her older version's dials and skin, that is. Mixing the "perfect" figures with some more on the "old crones" side via shaping dials can yield great results, and it is pretty simple.

  • Thanks for the ideas. I already use some Mousso characters and have a couple of older Lyoness too.

Maybe blending is the way to go (merging 2 in Photoshop and maybe adding a bump map and an HD addon from another character still) but is a lot of work when characters are not cheap to start with.

Why would you blend characters outside Daz Studio? You can do that in the studio by using Shaping dials. You can also use a character's skin on a different character in the studio.

I pretty much always mix and edit shapes and often add HD of other characters, so it is the skin I am interested in and it seems one way to get (say) a normal skin of a 30 year old is to mix a 'flawless' young character with an old one.

Have you looked at Saiyaness's store? The characters are unique and while some are lovely, some fit the phrase, normal and like you would see on the street. Including one with bad skin who is one of my favorite male characters. Saying that, I owned everything she has released.

Lyoness has predominently nice looking characters, but the materials/LIEs often have some extra things like dirt, scars, burns...

RedzStudio has fantastic characters, but again the mats are great. Also, just to note, some of the guys while gorgeous, I have seen on the street in normal clothing.

Dark-Elf is another PA with normal characters that can be a good staple.

So this is just four I have bought a lot from, not only for the morph, but also the skin. I know there are others, but look around and check the included materials. With morph/shaping packages, you can use the materials on your own character, or change the ones you have bought.
