How faster is 3ds Max than Daz studio for scene making and rendering?
This may sound stupid but according to my observation, it seemed that one could create and render scenes with 3ds Max a lot faster than with Daz studio. I would like to make sure with experts if this is true or not.
I have about 6 month experience in scene creation and rendering with Daz studio as a hobby. I could currently create a satisfied render for about 5-6 hours - obviously too slow. So I am looking for an alternative software for scene creation and rendering. And I found that many artists of comics or VN could produce about 80-120 good renders per month with Daz studio but 300-500 renders per month with 3ds Max. Of course, I don't know much about their setup or workflow. So my question is: How faster is 3ds Max for scene making and rendering than Daz studio? And what factors make it faster? Thanks.

I can set up a scene and render it in Iray in less than 10 minutes, if doing that for 4 hours per day, 20 days a month = 480 renders
What do you mean? They are markedly different tools, using 3D Studio for the sort of task Daz Studio does well would be gross overkill - and quite possibly not that efficient as you'd have to work through all the UI aspects thata re there for the things 3DS does that DS doesn't. On the other hand, trying to use DS along for things that are 3DS specialities such as modelling would be an exercise in frustration. You don't give any meaningful description of what you are doing, without that no meaningful answer is possible.
I thought the same thing at first. Unfortunately the Daz2Max bridge is broken and severely limited. Firstly the materials tend to come out borked with every body texture except the face black. That's quite a lot of work to fix with 10+ materials. Then you have to rework the materials because the defaults are pretty basic, just diffuse color and monochrome bump because the bridge is essentially a .FBX bridge and is limited to what FBX supports. On top of that, I noticed that a lot of the vertex assignments are not accurate, so you often end up with bad distortions, with skinny knees that stick out. Then you have the problem that you can only export a character in a default Daz pose, otherwise the CAT rig the bridge creates is broken. No way to get Daz poses in accurately.
It's very disappointing. I ended up looking at blender instead. There is a third party exporter for Daz called Diffeomorphic which is amazing. Just wish blender was as intuitive and easy to use as Max, Arnold also renders significantly faster.
Unless you have a lot of time and patience on your hands, you are probably better off sticking to Daz Studion. The biggest benefit of being able to export from Daz is the ability to create and light scenery around your characters. But that is a lot of work with the current state of the Max exporter. A real shame.
Thanks for your answers. They are valuable information. I understand your points. Yes, the conversion between Daz and Max is additional problem. But I can use Max without the conversion by buying assets made for Max. Even in that case, I wonder what made scene-creating and rendering with Max faster than with Daz.
