Add bones to primitives?

Is it possible to add bones to primitive objects?  If I create a tube, for example, could I rig it with a couple bones so that it bends in the middle?

    Yes. Edit -> Object -> Rigging -> Convert Prop to Figure, then get to work with the Joint Editor tool.
