You know, I kept meaning to request a pause function pre4.8 for 3Delight as there are many times where a render is taking hours and something comes up where I want to do something on my PC and it's either cancel the render or wait.

A pause feature is much needed!

I suspect this is down to Nvidia rather than Daz. Both the render engines mentioned above are third party products so if they do not support a pause function then Daz can't help.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

I think you will need more competent opinion.
Need make rendering with iRay in a separate window.
Maybe not function "Pause", but function "Start" and "Stop" + "Save" in same window - it is very necessary!

See the change log here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log#private_channel
    Under version 4.8.0.18 it says:

Implemented the ability to resume canceled/finished Iray renders; in render window, until closed

So it looks like they're testing that feature right now.

Does anyone know whether it has been implemented ? Where do you find the function ? How does it work?

The resume function? It's simple, when doing an Iray render, when you cancel the render, then just to the left of the save button under the picture is a Resume button. Clicking that will resume the render where it left off :)

I can "Continue" after I "Cancel"... (I thought they just used poor wording.)

Actually, it is a trick I use to extend rendering time... Because it seems to reset the timer. (On my 2-hour renders, I check it just before the 2-hour mark... if it looks good, I just cancel. if it looks like it needs more time, I cancel, then continue.)

I just learned that last night when a render seemed to be taking a long time. I changed my mind about canceling the render just as I clicked the button so I resumed it and got the extra time :)

Too bad you can't do that after a render has finished as I often leave the pc while a scene is rendering so I'm not usually there until after a render has finished.

Unlike Luxrender, the 'resume' features of Iray, as they currently exist, reside ONLY in the Studio Temp folder, so everything is lost, once Studio or the render window is closed/temp folder cleared.   There isn't a permanent record of the progress made.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still extremely happy we got a pause/resume for Iray :)

I can now pause a render, watch a show through plex or surf the web or whatever, then continue rendering where I left off when I'm done!

I don't know how many times I sat there for quite a while debating on whether I should cancel my render that's already been running for an hour or just wait another hour to do anything else with my pc.
