Where are my workspace layout files?

I purchased an DAZ tutorial which provides files to create a custom workspace to use with the tutorials. The video tells me to download a ZIP file and unpack it which contains three types of files, a Daz Script 2 file, DAZ Shared XML file, and a PNG file to the following folder (which does not exist on my computer -- I get to the Studio4 folder and there is no user layouts folder):
C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\user layouts
Does anyone know where I am supposed to put these files so that they appear as a workspace you can select?

That's not a content directory, and the layouts don't appear in the content folders - they are available through Window>Workspace>Select Layout...
Assuming you are on Windows, open a file browser (Explorer) window and paste
%AppData%/Daz 3D/Studio4/user layouts/
into its address bar - AppData is hidden by default.
Windows says it cannot find the file. I copied and pasted your path (above) into Explorer.
That should take you to the folder. Try just
%AppData%/Daz 3D/Studio4/
Of course this assumes you are using the general release, if you have only the Public Build then you need
%AppData%/Daz 3D/Studio4 Public Build/
I think you may be missing a directory there.
Try %AppData%/Roaming/Daz 3D/Studio4/ or %AppData%\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\user layouts to get all the way there.
I actually found: C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4
When I found it, there was no user layouts folder, so I created one and put the files for the custom layout in it as shown in the attachments below. The fact that the user layouts file does not exist is troubling. I cannot figure out where the DAZ layouts are stored. If they are not where they are supposed to be, where are they? Do I need to contact DAZ to find out? I assume the files are part of a standard installation of the latest version of DAZ Studio. Am I missing something?
While I am here, do you have a suggestion for which DAZ layout to use?
Windows takes care of the Roaming bit - that's the point of using %AppData%.
I believe that the User Layouts folder and contents only get created if you save a User Layout? I am basing that belief on the fact that on my laptop I have the folder under my /Studio4/ folder (where I have saved a custom layout) but not under my /Studio 4 Public Build/ folder (which I have rarely used and never saved a layout).
The currently-used layout files seem to reside in the top folder and get saved there every time you use Daz Studio.
ETA: As far as a suggestion, well I suggest you try the tutorial layout (called "Wolfe Layout" in your screenshot) and see if you like that. If not, then try all the styles in Workspace-Customise and see which you like the look of. There is a button to get a preview before you commit yourself.
Note that if you have already customised your layout to one you like, I suggest you start by saving that layout (choose a nice name so you can find it easily) before trying any others, so you can return to it if you find you preferred it.
I actually have to resurrect this thread:
Daz does save my Layouts and I can find them under */appData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/Studio 4/user layouts
but DAZ can't find them and obviously can't load them. I can only choose the defaultr layouts such as Full Service, Hollywood Blvd etc.
What might I be doing wrong?
Edit: I tried to open the layout-.dsa file vie the "Merge" dialogue - but now my menu bar is gone. How can I get this back??? Please help, I am completely clueless right now!
Reload one of the default layouts, if you don't have back ups of your original %appData%/DAZ 3D/Studio 4/ layout files (not the ones in the User Layouts folder, the ones in the main Studio4 folder). If it's only that it is not shwoing you may be able to reenable it in Window>Workspace>Customise, in the Activites tab on the right.
Yeas, that did herlp. However I had to completely rebuild my workspace on my triple monitor setup. It was a major pain in my less than perfect bum, but I got it working. Thanks, Richard!
Hello Richard Haseltine,
After resorting to the "Clean" instance launch option in order to regain the main application window and determine if I need to reinstall or not, I am wondering if there is a reference for the `layout.dsx` file, in terms of what's in that XML. I was hoping to determine if somehow the main windows is set to off or disabled or something like that. I hope I can revert back to my custom layout by manually editing the file to get the main application window back. CLean launch works fine, so it's evidently not the installation, it may be the layout file.
Thanks
I am not sure if the main window placement would be there or not, but the file is not documented.
That is too bad.
Thanks
The settings of Main Windows are saved in Windows Registry.
