"Unexpected error (Generic Failure)" importing .tif into T.E. ?

When trying to import a picture (16mb, 2048x2048)

into the Terrain Editor to use as a height map, I get an error (?).

Bryce 7 Pro (LAA), Windows 10, i7.

Is TE Filters.exe necessary to make the height map acceptable to Bryce?
I have the program, and videos, but not sure yet how it works.

No, TE-Filters is not necessary. The TE image must be 16-bit grey scale TIF or PNG; 16-bit pixels unsigned integer values. The TIF file size is about 8,388,608 bytes plus a few bytes for the header; PNG are compressed and you cannot rely on the file size.

    Thanks, Horo.

The grey scale is a 16mb .tif ,

1 of 6 created when exporting an obj terrain mesh in GAEA.
Is that too large for Bryce?

I guess I need to stack them in Bryce (?)

The other option is to just import the mesh into Bryce, which I did
successfully (see screenshot), but not sure yet how to best apply Bryce materials.

    75 and still learning. wink

A 2048 square greyscale terrain height map at 16 MB is most probably a 32 bit TIF. 32 bit are usually single precision floating point numbers (reals) not integers. Bryce cannot cope with that. Find another export method for your terrain in GAEA.
