All measurements in DS are metric. If you move an object by Xtrans 100, that's 100 centimeters or 1 meter. The ground plane is divided into 100cm/1 meter squares.
There's a tool for DS called SizeOf which I use for measuring things (free script), but the ony addy I have for it is in the old forum and I'm not sure if you can still access it. Here's the link anyway.

Meters and centimeters are the only sensible form to measure something.
