Have you seen any of these?
InaneGlory modeled the lights to mimic their real world counterparts, and every effort has been made to take into account the quality of light each of these light types would produce. Full support for LuxRender via Luxus is included. Your mileage may vary for other render engines.

But I see if you needed the light to actually be a prop in the scene then this won't help much. Well, lights and lamps are props too, but they are meant to simulate standard light bulbs, so they are not bright enough to light the scene on their own, and they are not the type of prop you are looking for. I think one of the big problems is that for the area lights to give accurate yet desireable lighting in the scene, the lights themselves end up being quite large. I'll check with IG on this. It is a good idea.
Have you looked at Fashion Studio?

It contains a full range of studio lights, softbox, gobos, boom, generator, black/white panels, etc.
