Advice on Current Tablets

I'm using a 9x5 Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen & Touch. This model seems to be discontinued, possibly because the touch function is almost useless. I've only been using a tablet for a little over a year now.

If I decide at some point to upgrade, should I go with another Bamboo model, or upgrade to Intuos, or something else entirely? I use the tablet's stylus function for texturing constantly, including detail work like drawing patterns for tiling and adding fine lines of stitching. I've heard Intuos is capable of finer pressure sensing, which might be handy when I'm ready to advance to more detailed and layered hand-drawing.

Share your experience, please? I'd especially like to hear from those who use their tablets for freehand drawing, but all input is appreciated.
