I'm brand new to this and I'm trying to get started. I loaded DAZ 4.6 today and when I tried to import a file it kept saying "no importer for the file can be found. Can someone please help me?

What's the file extension for the file you are trying to import? That error message indicates that it is a file format that either DAZ Studio doesn't support, or it requires a plugin to be able to import.

it was (Boltock Pistol.obj) What type of files should I look for? A friend sent that one to me. He tried to help me set it up and when it didn't work he told me to write here.

There should be no problem with importing an obj file, make sure the file isnt corrupt.
Maybe try with a different .obj file to see if you have the same issue.
So you can isolate the issue as being with the .obj file or Daz Studio.

Importing an OBJ into Daz Studio is pretty straightforward on the mac, please verify you are following these steps:

    Open Daz Studio.
    go to file
    go to import
navigate to where you OBJ is located on your drive
    click accept
your Model should appear in the content pane and you may need to adjust scaling depending on what application the model was exported out from

Now I don't necessarily see an OBJ exporter in the Daz Studio Plugins on my Macintosh HD:Applications:Daz 3d: Plugins but there might be something in that folder that allows you to import the obj and it's named something other than "obj import"
