Rendered Preview in terrain editor

Just coming back to Bryce after many years away from it. Have a terrain editor question. In the terrain editor the flat preview works fine. But when I switched to the rendered preview I was seeing a wireframe image. Was going to post about this when I tried it again and the rendered preview works fine now! And I did not change any of the render settings between these two times. Is this feature a bit finicky?

    Believe I can answer my own question now. It appears that the TE rendered preview does not 'kick in' until you are looking down on the terrain. Side views seem to switch back to a wireframe view.
