How do I change the viewpoint when moving actors?

I know this is a silly question, but i have been unable to change the viewpoint when I move about, so its hard to keep all the models in view.

Which "camera view" are you looking through? (There's a drop-down at the top of the Viewport.) The Views aren't really cameras; Perspective has limited controls and can't be saved, the directional Views can only be panned or dollied, you can't rotate or orbit them. Only the "default camera" is a real camera, along with any new cameras you add, with all the Parameter Tab controls and saving with your scene. It sounds like you're in a View, not a Camera.
The quickest way is to go to the Scene Pane and select a figure. Then press CTRL+F to frame it with the camera. To frame the entire scene, just don't select anything and press CTRL+F.
My tutorial will give you a better understanding of cameras in DS.
