CrazyBump Enhancing Bump, Spec etc For BRYCE
Hi all,
I've got a question.
I've been using the evaluation version of CrazyBump.
(I had a play with this during Ryan's Beta testing period a few years ago - Loved it then too)
But I have a problem with one of my textures.
I love the texture - I really don't want to change it, so please don't suggest that.
My problem is that programs like this all rely on light and dark
- don't they?
And this texture I've been working with has contrasting light and dark metal and dark rivets - but the rivets keep on coming up looking more like pits.
Question 1) I was wondering if I need to do a separate image of just the rivets, and then feed that through CrazyBump, so as to get the correct effect?
What do you all think?
Before I got the CrazyBump evaluation edition, I'd been using the XNormals filter in PhotoShop - but that just does the Normals - the great thing about CB is that it'll do everything: Normals, Displacement, Occlusion, Specular and even enhance the Colour texture too.
(I'm saving the results under new names, so as not to overwrite my originals - just in case!)
Now I can use the displacement image in Bryce for Bump, or the Normal, and Bryce can use Specular too.
But what about occlusion?
Question 2) Can Bryce use occlusion - if yes, then where?
Here's the texture I'm having problems with:

@franontheedge - Q1: David owns CrazyBump and uses it for Bryce. Our metals feature maps made with CrazyBump (among other programs). David could therefore best answer this question.
Q2: Bryce has not directly an AO (ambient occlusion) function, but TA comes very near to it. There are several TA strategies.
