I have seen a few of models of this car but never one as complete and well built as this one. It has all the dash instruments and interior colors and fabrics. Just a solid model. The famed Tucker Torpedo.

    Nice Ones!

Sketchup models can be a great source.. just got to watchout for flipped normals on some faces..

Next up - again a model from grabcad - needed a fair bit of conversion to get the matrerialzones to come across in Daz. and I had to add the clutch cable in postwork..
decent model of the Captian America bike from Easy Rider. All I need not is a proper HD FL tank and a springer front end and I could get a nice veriosn of Blue's bike from Wild Angels..

If you have ever seen a UV template for one of their models, it looks very weird. It isn't setup with quads like many are. It is a wide scattered sets of triads. They can't be mapped in any other program. I made a Gibson Les Paul guitar and in order to get different top colors and textures, I had to make the top in Daz where I could map it for textures. It turned out really nice and I got lots of tops for it. Point is, it is not UV mapped like any other. Here are a few more I did. This is a real nice 1957 Chevy Two door, two poler.

True, Skecthup can be strange.  There are some plugins that can look for and try to correct flipped faces, but I agree that mapping is .... odd...

    Love the Chevy!

I do this...I export the Sketchup model as a .3ds model (sometimes in parts for opening doors, hoods, tires etc.). The I open each 3ds file up in Poseray. It usually is kinds rough and edges are not rounded well. I then hit the "groups" tab at the top. Then I select  "weld vertices" and then after it stops, I select "recalculate normals". It will tick for a few seconds and then POOF...the model is perfectly smoothed. Huge difference. Then export as .obj and import into Daz and apply textures and material colors. Most will usuall already have them applied when taken into Poseray. This is my method and it works great for me...as you can see with these renders. Here is one more...hahaha....It is a  red 1966 Sunbeam Tiger. The same car agent 86, Maxwell Smart, had on the TV show "Get Smart" back in 1966. I tried to put it near a street curb like he did in the intro to the show.

Latest one... LOTS of kitbashimg here (and research to get the colors correct) there's parts from at least 5 different bike meshes in here... My attempt at modelling a movie bike that I thought looked pretty spiffy, and one that I tried to copy in real life with my HD Ul (and that was 53 years ago).. The cables were not done in post, but I may try to add the proper tank art in pots, not a fun task I imagine) two of the models coursey of grabcad (in.stl and STEP) format - fun that)

I am really excited about this model. It is one car that I can just barely remember. I spazzed when I saw it. It is a Sketchup conversion I did. This was the original color for this car, the patriotic red, white and blue. Made by AMC, it was called The rebel, and this limited version was called "The Machine". Here it is in all it's glory.

Latest from my bike series.. added a figure. was inspired by the Peter Fonda poster from the 1966 movie "Wild Angels". This one took a long time to get the figure posed correctly..

My question is this...hacsart, how do you get these background pics to be from different angles but yet the same pavement, yard, etc. I know there are HDRI sets but I have not seen one like this one of a neighborhood street and driveway. What is your trick?

I like the Rebel you got from a GTA site. I can do conversions of those with my ZBrush program. Surprizes me they had one!

  • hacsarthacsart Posts: 2,025

I use IBL master for the HDRI setup. all I have done there is move the camera, and rotate the environemnt sphere on its Y Axis as needed.. IBL master makes HDRI work easy.. (of course its 3Delight only..) Those scens had the HDRI image as lights, plus one distant or spot light for fill, if needed..

  • Sven DullahSven Dullah Posts: 7,621

Uhm...I believe IBL master syncronizes the rotation of the HDRI between 3DL and IRay, so rotating the env sphere will impact the IRay environment settings. So it should be quite a useful tool for IRay users too. But yeah, the essence of IBLM is the 3DL light shader.

Really nice bike hacsart! I still use 3d delight on renders that have a lot of depth. Like a yard scene with a field behind it. Not a picture but actual modeling. I have this model that first Bastion did of an old roadside motel from the 60s. There is a lot of background hills and sky, also his gas station. In fact, I have never been able to get the gas station to render in IRay. It always come back solid black. In 3d delight, it looks pretty good. Well, here's an example. This is a 3d delight render.

Can't recall him Dana. What kinda stuff did he do?

  • DanaTADanaTA Posts: 13,222

Kind of toony stuff, usually.  He was a cartoonist.  I'm pretty sure you'd remember if you saw some of his work.  It was quite a while ago.
