Dollygirl -- thanks for pointing me to the ticket -- I see that you can also get some freebie marionette strings if you figure out the ticket's puzzle. Nifty -- I've been wanting some puppet strings.

Some hair and clothing for genesis 2 females! I'm broke as you come (highschool student, no-one employs teenagers. Even nice ones like me.) and deathly bored of the same 3 clothing styles (barefoot dancer, scifi warrior and bikini) and 5 or so hairs. :(

Also go to ShareCG.com. They have loads of freebies including clothes and hair, much of which can be autofit to Genesis or Genesis 2, as well as content specifically made for those figures.

I had reason recently to go through Kerya's list of hairdos (which can be rather daunting if you don't know what you're looking for) - these are from that list. I've added notes to the ones I recognized.

are there any twin-tail hair (think teen/tween) models that are suitable for high-res work? I have a few legacy ones but I think they were for posette and even sub-d on the poly count is not helping them look much better than if they were made for 1st gen Nintendo systems

if not any hair making tutorials for blender users? I think I'd like to try my hand at that.

Depending upon whether you want the pigtails to be set high on the head or down low, you could try the SallyMae hair that comes with DAZ Studio. The various morphs allow you to adjust the length and fullness of the tails, bangs, ribbons, and overall style, as well as movement. I use that a lot when I want to have my character Tommie in pigtails.

I just prefer the fuller look for Tommie, since she has rather thick hair to begin with. I also lengthen the tails by over 300% since her hair is normally waist length.

Of course "greasy" hair is more a matter of shaders and texture than morphs, so i can't help you there. You'l have to mess with the surface settings for that. But "nerdy" does not necessarily mean greasy hair. Tommie's kid brother is a total nerd, and his hair is wild and curly, not greasy.

These might work for you. First one is for V2 and V3 Beret can be turned invisible. The second one is for V4

And there are some texture sets for it...some are really nice. It had decent geometry and with a good texture set (one that has a decent transmap), it still is very usable.

    Would MayaStudio's TwinTail [V1/V2] work?

thanks everyone so far, I'm very picky but I appreciate all your help.

that's closer to the style I'm looking for but the model is "blocky" when you render and subdividing wont help.
I'm still actively looking for a blender tutorial that shows how to do this but judging from some of the you-tube comments I'm not the only one who hasn't found any yet.

Most of the hair tutorials for Blender are for its particle based hair. Yeah, it can be converted to a mesh object and turned into a 'fiber' hair...but they come out at insane poly levels.

I saw one tutorial that had a short segment on making transmapped hair...but it was like 3 minutes out of an hour++ tut...and it basically consisted of making a UV mapped plane and then duplicating it around a 'skull cap'.

I might try and take an existing hair cap from one set and make a pair of tails from it then try to match the base colors up in Photoshop.
I can never find exactly what I'm looking for so I decided to try modeling, now I can sorta make something closer but still not what I wanted.

How soon do you need it?

    And how about this one....

The Sloan unit down near the bottom...

Needs UV mapped and materials set to something other than 'working colors'...and then imported into DS.

    Probably Wednesday or Thursday...

Hi StratDragon -- how quickly do you need this? -- I have PhilC's Hair Designer [and Abalone's HairShop] and would be able to whip something up in a day or two, which I could then release as a freebie. Nothing super complex, but I could definitely get you the two tails, some bangs/fringe if necessary, and optional spit curls. If you want, you can PM me with your preferred base figure and the general style. Note that I only work in Daz Studio, so any hairstyle would be available only as a .duf. If you want to see my other freebie hairstyles as an example of similar work, you can check my blog at http://oddpla.net/tacky/category/hairstyles/ .

--MWHey ModernWizard. Any chance of creating a good mullet hair style for Genesis1? there aren't any freebie ones out there, and the only two paid for ones I found are too short in the back. I've been using Wildmane hair with the back stretched out (see attached images below), but as a result, the back doesn't really move naturally. it's just a rigid plane. I'm looking for something short, spiky and wild on the top and sides, with the back reaching down to about the bottom of the shoulder blades.

no rush at all, in fact my response to attach this pic just sent me down an hour long rabbit hole with iOS and OSX compatibility issues (Apple is the new Microsoft, I say this as a disgruntled former fanboy)
this is sorta what I'm looking at and if possible it needs to fit V4
I'm checking your blog, these are ambitious hairstyles!

I have a request for a few freebies.
Foremost I need a backpack with a fantasy medieval theme.
I am also on the look out for other fantasy themed gear like pouches, satchels and other similar items.

Speaking of hair as mentioned above I have been looking for long hair types where all the hair is behind the back. Smooth and straight is the preferred.
Anyone know where I might find such things?

    For long, smooth, straight hair...

RedPhantom has Very Long Hair for V4: http://renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=70572

    There's also EnglishBob's Flo Hair: http://renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=26739

And, of course, there's Kozaburo's Long Hair Evolution, which may require the use of magnets to drag it behind shoulders [but maybe it has morphs?]: <<a href="http://digitalbabes.jp/dload/LongHairEvo.html</a>">http://digitalbabes.jp/dload/LongHairEvo.html

Here are a few more. All have morphs that can push the hair back. The first three are for V4. The fourth one is to a character who has long hair but not really long hair. This one you may not want to download because there is some sexual props that may offend you. It is safe to go to the page to see the character. You won't see the props until you install the content. The last one is a hair for Maya Doll. It is a Cowboy hat with long hair attached to it. You can make the hat disappear and use just the hair with another hat and you will not have to deal with getting the hat and hair to work together. Just an idea.

Tramp Graphics -- funny thing you should mention a MULLET. I've been on a quest to create a decent one since I got some various hair creation packages last year. I will add it to my list of projects.

StratDragon -- your mock-up definitely looks doable. I'll see what I can make once I finish kitbashing this electric wheelchair.

On the subject of finding freebies, I need some LOW [2 inches or less] pumps or flats for G2F with CLOSED TOES suitable for business attire. I don't want to use Toyen's [http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=74884] because the heels are too far back on the shoes, and it's bugging me. Will also take suggestions for V4 items, as long as they convert well to G2F.
