Instancing Light

A few minutes ago I tried to create a new instance for a spot light. While the instance is created, it is not visible in the overview window and doesn't emit light either. Is this expected?
Thanks

As far as I know, lights can't be instanced. (Instancing is designed to avoid unneeded creation of duplicate geometry of objects, but a light doesn't have any geometry to duplicate.) You need to create a new light (and you have the option of copying the selected light I believe.)
There's some discussion of how to efficiently replicate lights here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/29135/
Sean, Richard, thanks for your answers
