bits per pixel?

edited December 1969 in Bryce Discussion

you know when you render to disc..and you saving the file.. it gives you an option of bits per pixel..esp if yous ave as tiff file.. 24/48 and 96 bits per pixel.. does that make a difference to the render? What's the best option? And I suspect makes the render longer?

cced to rendo..

Unless you are rendering larger that 4000 pixels then there is no real need to render to disc. Indeed render to disc is often slower than rendering on the screen - depending on your CPU.

As for bits per pixel. That depends on your requirements.

If you use 24 then you can produce a smaller file but you will want 48 bit dithering enabled.
if you use 48 you get a larger output file but better colour information and you want 48 bit dithering disabled.
If you use 96 you get no more colour information that 48 so far as I know, so you would only choose this if you had a need for having the output file at this bit depth.

48 bit dithering is to be found in render options it is on by default.

Reading this thread would also probably help make things a little clearer http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/27626/ as I know this is a pretty obscure topic and not an easy one to grasp for many folks.

@erosiaart - Here is a video Why you should consider exporting your renders as HDRI and here is the Transcript. Also have a look at the forum link at the end of David's post.
