So excited to have this out.

Extra commentary:

While there are included Crystal and Rock dog morphs, the textures should look decent on other dogs, too. A crystal French Bulldog looks cute... with a spiky hiney.

The Crystal dogs look best at subd 4, but, like many things, at medium to long range you can reduce that. You may also get interesting results by turning off displacement.

There are two sets of crystal designs. The first is angular (which covers most of the options), but then there's a second more bulbous look for a few options.

The Geode preset displaces inward with angular crystals, making the dog look more like a cut or eroded geode. This might not play nice with the crystal or spine conformer.

If you drastically change the scale of a rock dog, you will need to change transmitted distance and sss distance to compensate to keep the same look; these distances are absolute, so a large dog will appear relatively more opaque and a small dog relatively more translucent.

These are SO COOL! I can see these guys guarding the gates of an estate, roaming the halls of a Crystal Castle, or deep in the bowels of the earth guarding their rock king, or even (as one of your promos shows) as figurines on someone's desk, shelf, or coffee table.

The dog with the tongue hanging out made me literally laugh out loud:

And this crystal dog made my jaw drop:

    Really great textures, Will! yes

Thank you! I wish I had been able to do Labradorite better (hahahaha), but it's a VERY complex substance. It has such unique properties it actually has a special term just for it (Labradorescence)

But I think I got passably close. ;)

Are any of the shaders suitable to apply to non-canine figures with decent results? I have loads of beautiful gemstone and worked stone options, but these have such great solid _rockiness_ for a statue or a rock person.

Yep! You should be able to copy/paste the gem materials to just about anything without a problem in most cases. Some of the weirder multicolored stones may not transfer as well (as they use maps), but ... most should.

I'd love to see any experiments.

  • These are awesome!
