Two open tech support questions directed at the vendor and he’s been AWOL since October (aside from never providing the promised manual). I for one won’t be buying anything from him again, as the documentation is (as others have stated) wholly lacking. This problem is *not* going to happen to me again.

That's your right. Your problem isn't a technical issue that the vendor needs to patch; it's a rather brash request for a personalized tutorial within a 4 day time frame during the holidays. It seems like most people in this thread have tinkered and found out how to use this product to make some amazing things. The documentation cannot cover step-by-step every permutation of vertex/bone/plane splitting for edge cases. Hobbyist software or not, some trial and error goes a long way.

No step by step screenshots here, just good old reading and deduction using what we know of Daz figures in general. This product assumes the user knows a thing or two about that.

I assume by "morph creation of a character’s feet" you want to separate the feet morphs from a character to use elsewhere. First load in a default G8 and run the script. In Step 1,  the product needs a way to know how to divide a character. Right away when we launch the script, we see the Easy panel doesn't divide the target part; we want the feet only, not the entire legs. The Material panel also doesn't do what we want because the feet don't have their own material surface zone (check it). But in the Bones panel we can scroll down and see that, lo and behold, there is a heirarchy for the feet bones (left and right feet). Select all the child bones for the left and right feet (including all the toes).

In Step 2, click where it says "Select a property..." and start typing the morph you want to separate. So if you like Victoria 8's feet, you would write "Victoria 8" and choose FBMVictoria8 (Victoria 8 Body). FBM = female body morph. Don't choose FHM as that's the head only.

The video then clearly shows how to preview and save out the morph for use with other characters. You can tinker with including more bones when transplanting the feet, as some characters are taller than their base counterparts, so the ankles can get distorted if you don't also include the shin bones. Victoria 8, for example, has this problem.

There are more advanced uses of this product to do the same thing, but this is the quick and dirty, figure-it-out-in-15-minutes method of transplanting feet.

Very useful tips. I like them.

Hi, I have purchased this add on because I need to create a character with half face that looks like it's melting.

To do this, i would like to split the genesis 8 character (that I have shaped to look like someone) in  half vertically. I can't seem to be able to, as the head only splits from the body, even if I position the plane splitter.

    What can I do?

    thanks

    Sorry for answering so far.
If you still have problems you could include some images.

Just run the script, and divide by "Cutting plane".
Here some images of the results, the most important part is the smoothing. Gen8Melt is a full body morph made in blender.

Because the smoothing is 10 cm by default, when the head is cut vertically, it is common that affects a large part of the head.
You just have to reduce the smoothing, until you get the desired results.

Here's a video of the easier multile part splitting:

Will this allow you to combine morphs made from Zbrush via Goz?  I GOZ'ed Genesis 8 to Zbrush and now have three different custom morphs that change the shape of her leg. Will Shape Splitter allow me to combine those three custom leg morphs into one morph?

    Example:

    General
    Actor
    Display
    Zbrush
    - Custom Leg 1
    - Custom Leg 2
    - Custom Leg 3
    - Bigger Nose
    - Smaller Chin
    - Bigger Stomach

Can Shape Shifter combine Custom Leg 1,2,3 into a single morph called Custom Leg?

Yes, through the Spawn tab, a morph is created based on the current shape. For example, you set the three leg morphs, and perform the spawn.

And for the morphs to be available in the figure(load) they must be saved as Asset(s)

  • I tried following the X-Morphs - Divide, Combine and Save For DAZ Studio (Shape Splitter) video and when I click preview (01:32) I get an error message that says:

Line:2992 - TypeError: ambiguous call of overloaded function getModifier(); candidates were

        getModifier(int)

        getModifier(int)

The process then freezes at 0% and Calculation of D-Former weights. I have to close out of the window at this point. This is happening on both PC and Mac. Also, on Mac the Select a Property filter doesn't work forcing me to manually scroll through hundreds of items.

Is development continuing on this plugin?

Thank you for the awesome tool!

Could you send me the version of Daz Studio and shape Splitter, as well as a complete image of the error (screen full)

    thanks

"TypeError: ambiguous call of overloaded function getModifier()"

There is a bug when using the D-Formers in Shape Splitter in the latest versions of DAZ Studio, 4.12.1.118, 4.12.1.117 have this problem.
The last version that worked is with 4.12.86 or earlier (4.10, 4.11).
    This bug is already reported.

I will inform you when it is corrected

What's the best way of splitting in morph where the two figures are different heights.

E.g., Sasquatch is a lot taller than G8M, so when morphs load in they are slightly higher up.

When two figures are too different in size, I adjust the scale size, and create a new morph using the combine tab.
And now if I can divide the parts I want.

And using negative morphs, I can remove certain parts, and retain the HD detail of a figure.

" This product does not transfer morphs to other figures."

So I can not use this product to grab a morph from G8F To G8M? I like the Butt of a G8F :D and wanna move it to a G8M :) giving him a nice butt :p

Is that possible with Shape splitter?

    No.

You can use this product for example to take a full body morph for G8F and create individual morphs for just the head or just the arms, but those morphs will still be for G8F.

This is possible with the DAZ Studio build in tool: Transfer Tool.

But CGI3DM is working on a transgender tool, which alloqws you to transfer morphs between genders more easiliy as with the Transfer Tool.

When I use the combine all morphs feature it leaves a slight but still noticeable gap between the lips. Even at one morph, it still leaves a gap.

    Edit: NVM, update fixed it.

    Bug fix 4.14.0.08

The new version DAZ Studio 4.14.0.8 already corrected the bug that some versions of 4.12.xx had, when the D-Formers were used.

"TypeError: ambiguous call of overloaded function getModifier()"

    Need help please.

I have some full character morphs I'd like to simply split into separate head and body morphs without other changes.   I've tried on my own with the "Easy" tab and the "Regions" tab, but have gotten very strange results.  If someone could step-by-step me, I'd be much obliged.

    Thanks.

    Are they HD morphs?

    No.  Just plain morphs.

You can include some images of the results you to know what the problem is.

But when you get strange morphs it is because morphs are being duplicated, and the reason is because they are locked and therefore Shape Splitter cannot set them to zero. And the solution is that you unlock those morphs and set them to zero. To know which morphs are still active you can see them in parameters, "Currently used".

This is the head morph I'm trying to save.  It's a modeled character with Growing Up applied.

These are the currently used sliders.  None are locked.

    I start here

Apply the character to just the head, and get this

Your figure (Angellina) is a mix of morphs and not a single morph. If you wanted to use it you would have to create a new morph (Tab Combine), for that you could check page 8 or 16 of the included manual. And once the new morph is created you could divide like any other morph.
You can see that in this part of the video(at 28 sec )

And for the problem of the head is to perform the correction of the position, this is done by pressing the "Calculate" button.
You can see that in this part of the video (at 29 sec )

Thank you.  Will give that a shot.

  • Good day,

Hope this thread is still alive, I tried to use this tool on this new figure : https://www.daz3d.com/the-gobbler-hd-for-genesis-8-male , but when I tried to preview the results of applying the morph nothing happens/changes on the genesis 8 figure, no matter which body part I choose. Is there something special about this figure, any help is appreciated.

Looks like that the shape of the Gobbler depends heavily on HD. DAZ restricted the HD edit tools to PAs so that HD shapes can only be sold in the DAZ store. That's why this tool doesn't support HD, only base shapes can be splitted.

But I thought this tutorial was a work around that allowed it to somewhat work : or am I mistaken?

You can apply non-HD morphs to HD characters, but you can't apply HD morphs to other characters.
