3DS, DXF, AND LIGHTWAVE VAULT
These formats are supported by most free 3D conversion programs, as well as Blender, upon which they can then be converted to wavefront (.obj) format for import into DAZ Studio and Poser.
Be warned that some models may not work properly in DAZ. Also, some models have their welded/conjoined components displaced when loaded and exported in Poseray and Propviewer. Anycad Exchange (warning: some sites bundle the Anycad Exchange with adware) will export them without this distortion, but does not convert material zones properly, and therefore the textures provided may no longer be fully compatible with the model anymore (though a hassle, this can be remedied manually in Hexagon or a similar program) Some of these models and/or their textures are not of good quality
(note: I removed most of these as I was not aware that the main site I linked to hosts some warez)

BONUS
2. SEAMLESS BARK TEXTURES, + LEAF TEXTURES FOR IVY GENERATOR (WIP)
Note: Ivy Generator is a free standalone program which simulates ivy and other climbing plants via geometry and math (though leaves and flowers are represented solely by a flat plane for transmaps to be applied to) It reads and saves the standard Wavefront .obj and .mtl files, and uses .jpgs and .pngs (or was it only one of those?) for textures. There is also a well-known Ivygen plugin for Carrara. Most of the wall-climbing ivy models you find for sale and for free for Poser, DAZ, and as wavefront object were at least partially created in Ivy Generator. The program can be found on ShareCG.

Wow. This is incredibly helpful Thank you!
I have some more sources to contribute-- I'll send them when I get to my main computer.
Thanks, but please don't send them just yet. I have a whole bunch more entries that I haven't posted yet because I'm not sure I completed the search for the genus. I'm not ready for the non-DAZ/Poser compatible ones yet (Bryce, Vue, Maya, Blender, etc)
Also, bear in mind that this links archive ONLY covers plants in which the genus is given or can be determined (or it is a fantasy plant). Generic trees and the like will not be covered in this archive.
The ones I'm thinking of are obj format and identified by species name, but sometimes in Japanese. You may have them already, though.
Belladonna was one I'd been trying to find for years. Fingers crossed that you have a foxglove model in your list somewhere! ;)
Thank you for adding the layman's term in parenthesis. This thread just made me realize how little I know about plants, and how much I need a science book. lol
Great idea, fantastic work, superb resource!
And thanks for the heads up on the XFrog plants! Perfect timing - I've just found a need for lots and lots of trees!
(Any idea how long they're free for - it does say 'Limited Time Offer!', but I can't see an end date)
Any pines that work for Daz3 and any cactus?
The current sale on the software ends June 30...
Just hit ctrl+f and search for pine ...
Just a heads-up that XFrog have changed their free 'Samples' section here http://xfrog.com/category/samples.html . There's now a completely different list of free 3D plants (31 different plants), but the 6 2D plants remain the same as before.
(Each 3D plant (iirc) has three different versions (young, middle, and old) and some have more, which is where the reference to '145 completely new plants'comes from.)
I think the list in the OP needs to be updated now...
[Edit: I think that link only works if you're already logged in. If you're not logged in go to the XFrog homepage (http://xfrog.com/), click the 'Shop' tab (near the top-left of the homepage), and then click the 'Samples' tab (right hand side under the main banner image).]
Thank you for this list. I found things I'd never seen before.
Edit 24th July 2014 - the free samples at XFrog now include all the 3D plants listed in this post, PLUS five more 3D plants, MINUS three of the 2D plants
(Just realised I posted this on April Fools Day. The list of free plants is 100% genuine - I downloaded the OBJ versions yesterday)
(Edit 24th July - the following sizes were correct for the April OBJ downloads. But I think that XFrog have repackaged all the downloads since them)
- The hornbeam OBJ download is nearly 500MB.
- Peace lily, Willow bottlebrush, Totara, White Mallee, Banyan, and Spinach OBJ downloads are each 100-200MB
- Watermelon OBJ download is about 70MB
- All other OBJ downloads are 8-50MB
Here's the links to the individual free plants from XFrog (one from each of their 31 plant categories):

Thanks for the heads up. Yech, only 2D freebies, now.
????
First are the trials for XFrog, then there are
XfrogPlants Volume 2 - 3D Plants
and
XfrogPlants Volume 1 - 3D Plants
and only the last two rows are
XfrogPlants 2D Plants
The 3D plant samples are not showing up as free on my browser. Do I have to log in in order to see them as "free"?
Ooops - no, they aren't free now.
When I wrote my message on June 04 they were - but maybe the June 05 was a browser caching issue.
Sorry.
Wow, I am so lucky i got those on time.
They seem to be back for free:
http://xfrog.com/category/samples.html?utm_source=June+10+Reminder&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2014+Summer+Sale
I think X Frog freebies should be in the Limited time freebies thread rather than in a list thread. as they keep changing.
The XFrog free plant samples now INCLUDES all the free 3D plants from April, PLUS five more 3D plants (although I think these 5 were also free at some time in the past?)...
Honeylocust
( Gleditsia triacanthos f. Inermis )

White Fir
( Abies concolor )
http://xfrog.com/product/CL01.html
...MINUS three of the 2D plants - golden bamboo, manna gum, and new zealand flax are no longer there)
Chohole - also posted this in the limited time freebie thread. But I recall that the previous (i.e. pre-April 2014) batch of XFrog freebies, although also 'limited time', hung around for many months (I think over a year?). I suspect the same will be true of this batch. The ones that Kerya mentioned above in http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24646/P15/#618012 do seem to have been free for only a month or so.
P.S. I've got a short step-by-step for converting the OBJ versions of the XFrog plants into PP2s if anybody's interested. It's just plain text at present, and requires a couple of PoserPython scripts I wrote. It's not necessarilly the best way - just a way I've found that works for me. If anybody's interested just let me know and I'll email it. If there's more than a few people I'll think about douing it as a PDF. (I've already checked with XFrog directly just to be absolutely sure, and they're quite happy for me to do this - apparently they've already converted their basic (non-freebie) set to PP2 format, although it's not mentioned anywhere)
Yeah, I agree with you Chohole. It's too much for me to keep up with as I don't update my lists very often.
Just noticed that XFrog changed the freebies again - so I'd now agree with Chohole and opal42987 (I thought the frequent changes were going to be just a short-lived fad ;o)
(Maybe you should just add a link in the OP to the XFrog 'Samples' page, and note that they seem to change at unspecified intervals...
...and delete all the XFrog plants from your list of course!)
