    Can it load/edit existing ies profiles, like the free ones on the internet, or does it only let you create new profiles from sliders?

    As IES profiles can be saved in a gazillion diffrent formats (Iray only uses a very few limited params), it can not edit existing profiles as they can have any number of rays in any number of directions, any emittier shapes, and be of any of three types, Architectural, Indoor or car, but Iray only handles Architectural.

    OK, good info. Are there any presets, like for car headlights or incandescent bulbs, or is it all up to me to configure the rays?

    Nope - just hit the "I feel lucky" button and it will randomize something that usually is prettry decent, then yiu can tweak it.  What is important is the two emitter props that has the Polygons aligned correctly for an emitter, Most meshes doesn't, which causes Emission to go in a random direction and not the way you want it too.

    Ah, yes, I've had that crazy direction problem in the past! Thanks for the extra info. I have it in my cart.

    Edit; along with instances to objects, another of yours I don't have yet.

    I might not be able to do much with the new purchases for awhile. My main computer died a few days ago. It isn't repaired yet. I'm working on an 8 year old machine with a 2GB graphics card. As you see, it hasn't stopped my from shopping, though!

    OK, Mr. Totte, I finally got around to using this promising product, but I've run into a hitch. I load one of the two meshes you've so kindly provided; I open the Script interface. I press "I feel lucky." I edit the profile to suit my desire. I highlight (yellow light) emitter in the Materials column. I press "Save and Apply," and it takes me to a folder I can save in. I save. The browser closes. I close the interface.

    But I get no lights. What am I missing? What button should I be pressing? Why can't I just apply the emission profile and close? Thanks for the product and your consideration.

    And then when I go back to the file location where I saved the profile, I can't find it (it's not there).

    Are you allowed to save files where you wanted to save it? 
    DS does not always know what the OS or AntiVirus software allow or don't allow.
    I usually save mine in the same directory as the scene file.

    Yes, sir. I'm allowed to save the files, but when I go to the file location, they aren't there. I'm saving them where I keep my content. Are all of my quoted steps correct? Did I leave anything out?

    I've had difficulty using the "Content Relative Output" box checked, something about this sounds familiar. It wouldn't save, and once I got stuck in an endless loop of choose and save, Couldn't reproduce it (maybe because I hadn't saved a scene yet?), but it works okay if I don't use content relative output.

    That can be a DS bug is reported to DS devs, look closely the selected directory , sometimes it has an /untitled after it (also happens in DIM sometimes selecting directories), something withing Qt that spooks.

    I'll do one just to see what steps I take:
    - Add emitter prop
    - Start script
    - Set up IES
    - Select "emitter surface"
    - Select outdirectory (watch carefully it doesn't say /untitled in the end, I added code to trap that, but might sometimes fail..
    - Cick save and apply button
    - close script
    - select the emitter
    - look at surfaces, emitter, does it have the Emission Profle set?

    OK. Thanks, Totte, for going through the hassle to confirm the steps. I've got a render running to test it. It's a huge scene, and I'm using a laptop. So, it will be later tonight.

    However, how EXACTLY will I know if the Emission Profile is set? Once I know that, I'll just quit DS, and start anew. Thanks again.

    You have an Emission profile set on the material "emissive" onm the emitter, in the material parameter Emission Profile

    Yup. Thanks, Totte. It's plain as day. The Luminance was set at 500. So, I'm boosting it to 19,000 and trying again. Thank you so much for your help and for making a product that is essential.

    I bought this some time ago but never got around to using it. Now I have a scene in which I need a mesh light - specifically a rectangular Ghost Light - placed at ceiling height in a hallway. I want a Ghost light because I dont want the mesh to be visible. I want the light to be directional so that it doesn't bleach out the actual ceiling just above it. I searched for "directional Mesh Lights" which led to the reminder that I had bought this product. However, The mesh (from the EPM props) shows in the IRay render as a black block although the light is as I want it. How do I make the mesh invisible - I have followed all the instructions for making a mesh into a Ghost Light in DS 4.22.

    First, what you need to understand that IES Profiles lights,( the same way as Iray decals), uses Z Up and not Y up as axis orientation, that is Iray's internal XZY model. You can apply the IES to a lights to a mesh light, but you need to create a plane that is modeled oriented Z up, then rotate it before importing to DS. But using the built on props should work, just hide the blocker suface and apply a ghost light emissive setting and then apply the IES profile. I haven't done that, but Esha has some meshes in her invisi light set that should work, if they are modeled the right way,I know the ceiling light is.

    Ahh, sorry - the black surface has nothing to do with your prop. I tried again with a plane primitive and that shows black too, even with "Iray Visible to Primary Rays" turned off (to make it a Ghost Light). Seems the new version of Ghost Lights in 4.22 is not working for me. I rotate the plane by 180 and it is lit on the other side but I can't make it invisible.

    Did you try to set the Refraction Index and Weight of your primitive to 1.0 ?

    In the Surfaces pane:

    1. Select the surface(s) of the object you want to emit light from, and also want to be invisible to primary/secondary rays
    2. Set "Refraction Index" to 1.0 (i.e., air)
    3. Set "Refraction Weight" to 1.0
