How about some new Ice Skates?

Would be nice to have new ice skates for the G3 and G8 figures for winter activities.  Or to even be used with this new product, https://www.daz3d.com/winter-lake-frozen-and-broken-ice

I've been asking for new ice skates for three generations, now. A3 and V4 were the last characters to get ice skates, although there have been some form of roller skates for every Genesis generation, I think.

Ice skates is a must. Both hockey and figure skates. Especially needed for winter scenes. I would also like to see some hockey stuff (equipment, poses, props) for the Gen characters. We have it for Michael 4 so why not the Gen characters. Also there is NO hockey goalie stuff. Michael 4 only has the equipment for the players and nothing for the goalies.

  • I'm bumping this because I am watching the Olympics, and that made me want to buy some skates and other wintery sport things. Hey, imagine that, I see something on TV and I want to buy something like it for Daz!

But we haven't had ice skates in THREE generations??? How is that even possible? Has there even been a winter sports themed deal here? Obviously you don't have rights to the Olympics, but the sports themselves are done all over the world. A winter sports theme sale day could have a winter slope with optional ski gates, skiis, ski outfit and gear, ice skates, and of course a couple of --fabulous-- DFORCE outfits for Genesis 3 and 8 male and female (you have to have pairs!) Special emphasis on fabulous.

There is so much opportunity here. And since we haven't had many of these things in a while, I think a demand would be there. We have had aliens, frogs, more daggers than I can count, basketball courts, and an elevator all in the past 2-3 weeks. But we can't have winter sports equipment? During the Winter Olympics? It seems like a missed opportunity to me.

Ah well, to be honest the skates in that freebie are a bit rough. They appear to be refitted from another freebie, and this has caused them to bend a lot.

So what I did is take a freebie pair of skates for V4 and dive into Hexagon. I removed the shoes completely and modified the blades, giving it ridges (it didn't have any.) Then I imported this as OBJ in Daz, and parented a blade to each foot. From there I could add any shoe I wanted, I just needed a shoe that looked enough like a skating shoe. They are basically dress boots, so you can find lots of options for your favorite model. I used Iray metal shaders that are included with Daz.

    And here is the result.

I couldn't find an ice rink for Daz, so I ended up ust using a photo of ice. The model is based off Akae for V4, but I have converted her to Genesis 2.

Yeah, I got something working, but I would really like a properly made modern version. It would be awesome if the blades were their own detachable props, like what I dd, so they could be removed from the boots and they could also be used on other footwear. The skates I have here are too smooth and fat with no edge, real skate blades are...well...blades. Even skating outfits are hard to find. It still surprises that no one has attempted this since V4. That's a such a long time ago, and the market has changed so much since then. Daz has changed and seems bigger than ever, and figure skating is getting some of its highest ratings on TV than it has in years..People are tuning to skating competitions that are not the Olympics. Its so big that they are showing the entire Olympic competition for the men and women on NBC Sports. Every single performance, and live. In years past they used to only show the few big performers plus the Americans. And its so big that former skaters Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir are calling other sports besides skating! LOL. Their presense in other places brings even more exposure to skating.

Its growing like wild fire in other countries, too. Skating is at an all time high in Japan, with a now two time gold medalist for men, Yuzuru Hanyu, who has been called the Michael Jackson of his sport in Japan. And there is a very popular anime, Yuri on Ice. Yuri on Ice has become so popular it is crossing between the two, bringing skating fans into anime, and anime fans into skating.

And I'll post another render to support my cause. An outfit like this would be nice, too. I made it sort of work, but it could be so much better.

For skates I just used  a skate blade Here http://www.sharecg.com/v/89900/browse/5/3D-Model/Skate-Blade and parented it to the foot. I used military boots and recolored them to look more like skate.

  • I've seen that blade, and I'm not sure what kind of blade is it is. It sort of looks like a speed skating blade, but those are not curved on either end. Speed skate blades are razer thin and frequently replaced. The shoe is similar to a running shoe, which makes sense. The mount is also spring loaded.

Hockey skates are like a long curve, and they are very sturdy as they need to last for a long time. The blades are shorter and more covered for safety given the contact nature of hockey. A long blade could impale someone.

Figure skates are different from either one. They have a slight curve, and a distinct toothy notch up front that allows skaters to grip the ice so they can kick into spins and jumps. They also have that big heel..

The blade in that freebie actually looks more like a bobsled blade.

For me close enough is all I needed. wink I don’t live in a place where anyone ice skates so unfortunately or fortunately most don’t know the difference.

I also tend to not be overly picky about freebies...I’m just glad people make them. I can live with any inaccuracies.

They used to have an ice skating rinks in multiple places in Dallas-Fort Worth of all places. Probably still do but I don't live there anymore. They are very fun and not too busy and not too expensive. It's easier to ice skate if you've ever roller skated as a child. The DFW area also has multiple lap pools but those can be pretty busy at the wrong time of day.
