[Just Released] Dinosaurs series: Deinonychus Antirrhopus

My and lmx3d new model from the Dinosaurs Series, the first of many for these branch of animals, has been released. We are really proud of the quality and functionality delivered: the base model has a 'Hollywood' feel, with saurian skin; but, according to latest paleontology studies, we made also an additional conforming figure featuring a full feathers cover. There are several feathers color schemes but you can easily customize it with the look that you prefer.
Several control morphs and pose controls have been used to ensure easy and natural posing.

Please note the details on this model: feathers are modeled individually and not just sculpted on the body.

We hope you will enjoy this!

Thanks, I have to agree :D It took a long time to design and execute this model, but we are really proud and satisfied with the final result!

Total love for this product! heart

It randers amazingly fast in 3delight (haven't tried Iray yet), and the feathers&skin look fantastic! Posability is great (though there's no head slider for moving the tongue, but the tongue has 4 bones which can be posed as needed).

Screenshot of the feathers in 3DL render:

Thank you both for such a great product, and if those feathers are a sign for things to come in the bird line, I better start putting in overtime to fund the bill! wink

A render's still in the cooking, and I will post it as soon as it's done.

EDIT: Here's the image. I'm really happy with how it turned out, considering that it's just a quick thrown-together test render. Rendering time on this was 15 minutes in 3Delight. The full sized image can be found here: https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/425986/

    Edit 2:

Here's an Iray version render; though I photoshopped a bit tinkering with the colors. Full size image: https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/426191/

This is a great new model. Look at My Hair is useful for dinosaurs that likely had filamentous ("shaggy") feathers such as tyrannosauroids or therizinosaurids, but the group Paraves (which includes Velociraptor and Deinonychus) definitely had pennaceous feathers and thus deserve the treatment you are giving them. The fact that you even have the pennaceous feathers near the hand fanning over one of the fingers shows you definitely did your research!

Is there any chance of hearing what other dinosaur plans you may have, or are those too far in the future for you to divulge any secrets for?

Thanks! We studied lot of material and information about the Dromesauridae and wanted to reproduce it accurately according to latest research in the field.

Certainly we are going to make more raptors (velociraptor mongoliensis, utahraptor, dakotaraptor), and their chicks too. About other families, the Tirannosauridae is one I'd like to pursue (I already have a good base model of it), and some Triceratops.

Wow, that's a great rende, Joe Webb! I love the mood in it.

  • Thank you for making the feathered concepts purely optional and not compulsory! Options are always good. :)

Agreed! While the feathered version is more accurate based on the latest scientific findings, I still prefer the Hollywood version myself

Wow!  Just Wow!  These are really awesome. My grandson will want me to do pictures with these.

  • I picked this up the other day.  Superb model.  Thanks!

  • Thanks for the comments. How do you like those feathers, guys?

  • I think the feathers are essential. I'm experimenting with the controls, and I love the patterns. And if you want to do an expansion in the future, like crests and neck ruffles (ala roosters in attack mode) I would take a heartbeat to buy that as well.

Thank you Bee! And thanks for the 3DL test of the feathers. I use that a lot as well and am glad to see it comes out just as good in that as in iRay.

The feathers are great, they look good in both, Iray and 3Delight. I think the only "better" looking feathers are the ones used in "Feathered 3D Wings" when you render the 3DL setting in Iray. wink

That said, the ones you have developed here serve their purpose on this dino very well and make a believable feather.

I find myself using 3DL a lot, still, so I was really happy that this set has both settings. It's quite difficult to make them look similar, and this wotked out just fine here. I was totally going "aw!" when I set up the quick 3DL render, it looked really good.

I can't wait until my money flow gets better (or starts happening at all, I had a lucrative contract just stall out); this is top of my wishlist.
