Shameless self-promotion

Hi there Brycers. I can't say that I have clocked up much time in Bryce, but I'm a fan of the program and the art people are making with it. On my blog I've just started a series of posts about the program that will feature the works of several Bryce artists I was lucky enough to talk to recently. The first post can be found here http://digisprawl.com/blog/bryce-alive/
Second reason for posting is that I'm interested in tracking down more Bryce/DAZ focused blogs - anyone know of or maintain one?

Great stuff there.
You may want to amend one bit though. Bryce isn't free anymore. It's $19.95 at the moment after being free for over a year.
Always good to see people loving and promoting Bryce. :-)
Totally agree with Dave there.
Thanks guys, and thanks for the correction, Dave. Not sure how that one skipped me by. Awesome mock promo image by the way.
Sorry yes, I meant to mention that, but I'm too busy obsessing over my HD's... But yes, you should talk to Dave definitely! Talk to Dave, but here at DAZ 3D there are no galleries (I know, I can hardly believe it myself) and his beautiful renders are all buried higgeldypiggeldy in this thread http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/14050/P1230/#274229 also there is Dan Whiteside too, both these guys bravely forging ahead on their Mac's, in the face of troublesome bugs.
I've spent quite a bit of time lurking on that thread - lots of great stuff there. I could see myself doing quite a long series of Bryce stuff. I'll have to see where it takes me.
Bryce (and related) blogs:

http://unchartedregions.blogspot.ch/ by Stephen Teixeira aka Hak or HakDragon), see announcement in the old forum

Thanks Horo, both blogs have some very interesting stuff, and I'll be keeping an eye on them. Uncharted Regions seems to be mostly related to Vue, at least in the recent past, but I'll dig a little deeper.
...and I probably should have done so earlier, but I give both you and David my thanks for all your help.
Hi, very nice blog! I have the following blogs:
http://brycebasics.blogspot.co.uk/
http://brycearena.blogspot.co.uk/
http://brycemats.blogspot.co.uk/
I agree, the more Bryce promotion out there the better!
Hi Eva, thanks for the links to your blogs. I've seen your materials in the store here and always thought they looked cool. I had a bunch in my cart when I thought I was about to start doing Bryce in a big way. Instead of Brycing I ended up spending all that time learning about modelling (it’s an ongoing thing like any 3D expedition).
Heya!
Yes, I have been on sabbatical from Bryce and exploring Vue for the last few months - I needed to see what all the fuss was about. I plan on doing some more Bryce coverage in the future after a short downtime with my hardware. Landscapes are still the name of the game in any case, so drop on by and check out cool stuff for inspiration.

Hey Stephen, so nice to see you again here in the Bryce forums. Playing with Vue was - of course - a sacrilege ;) Yes, others also make great software and these also have limits. I'm looking forward to see what you come up with. We're still trying to fathom what we've got with the last Bryce upgrade.

Yeah, but I am a learning heretic out here in Vue-land. Being one of Bryce 7's architects, I like to study the competition from an extremely low level and get a feel for what makes it tick. I did a QA pass on Vue vs. Bryce displacement in a post that was very enlightening. There is a lot I like about Bryce, truth be told, but a lot that could be made better. That, and Vue works on my Mac natively, unlike the current Bryce version. Still, Bryce is home for me, and I have that hope that someday it shall rise supreme over all competitors again.

Thanks for the links, Hak. Now I see what you're up to. That's why we started looking into Octane - David is already way ahead of me.
Ha! I'm just stabbing wildly at controls and playing with sliders... I don't know what I'm doing. But it's fun! Had a crack at SSS with skin earlier - I've been trying to achieve this in Bryce for months now - it's really needed for figure work. He's my first attempt with Octane using the resources I found in DS's runtime and exported geometry.
Oh, that's really nice, David...Octane certainly seems to excel in this skin area, I think. Would love to buy the 'ware, but checked it out just now - assuming I have the correct one, and wow, way too pricey. Think I'll stick with Bryce for now :)
Jay
Really photo realistic, David. I'd like to see this face in backlit, see how nostrils and ears turn out.
Jay, you can use the demo to play with. The greater hurdle than purchasing a license for Octane seems to me the purchase of a state of the art graphics card. My old one can be used by Octane, but it is depressingly slow.
Yes I am very poor now :( Bread and water for the rest of the month. Will have another go at the skin if I get time tomorrow. SSS and absorption is an absorbing topic - who knows where the time goes?
I do. Regular 12 hour work days with regular working weekends. I enjoy my job up to a point, but bloody hell... must check lottery tickets.
Very nice render indeed, David. Octane has been on my hit list for a while now, but like a lot of other people Cuda is not currently in my price range. I have a pretty good i7 8 core processor, but stuck with this ATI card that comes with a long list of issues.
Apologies for the delay with the Bryce articles. I've been distracted with Lux all over again with Luxus for the last few days, as well as wrapping up a Poser to DAZ mat conversion.
Oh, and we're starting to see some very promising results with Lux's homogenous and glossy translucent materials when it comes to SSS. Lux is still a somewhat quirky render engine though.
PJF, a GTX660 with 3gb of on board.
No fancy pants stores in this neck of the woods - this is where I shop - https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=google+maps+victoria+road+mablethorpe&hl=en&ll=53.337235,0.265686&spn=0.001424,0.004128&oq=google+maps+victoria+road+mablethorpe&hnear=Victoria+Rd,+Mablethorpe,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=53.337235,0.265686&panoid=Y2Lx8-C-U18nXwMHHHGW4Q&cbp=12,274.43,,0,7.66
Actually there's a good selection of "out of code" stuff to root through and a shelf of dented tins that gets my special attention every visit.
Regular work? Imagine that... Most the lottery has ever given us is £30 - which I spent on Guinness.
Jim, no problem, who am I to say anything about being distracted by anything?
You beat me there by a factor of 10 and I've been playing longer.
I pushed up the light an pointed the camera at her nose - her ears are not visible on this model. I will continue tinkering...
Difficult to say it's not good looking because it is.
I think it's the eye, David - lacking a pupil that makes's this 'general' face view looking a bit 'cold' (no reflection on your work, of course). Your first render of this face was lovely, so it's probably just the right angle (again, in my opinion).
Jay
I'm so incompetent at DS I don't know that I know how to move her eye. There is probably some control somewhere - but I just used the stock pose. Mostly I wanted to see what happened inside her nostril. The bump map is not high enough resolution really for this shot, it's on the limit. I'm only really just skimming the surface of the material in Octane. While their properties are extensive, it has nothing to match the extent of Bryce's mapping modes or procedural synthesis that I have found. If it has access to Bryce's noise, phase, blend and mapping modes it would be much more memory efficient - but maybe a bit less render efficient... I don't know yet. There's a lot to investigate.
@David: You can turn her eyeballs in ...oh I wanted to write in Bryce, but your are in Octane, aren't you? Ok however I complete now my sentence... You could select her eyeballs included with pupils and iris and turn it in Bryce. But my answer seems academically anyway, for I assume you importe her directly from DAZ studio. Pardon my jumping in. BTW her skin is awesome.
Wow I didn't know you could turn her eyeballs in Bryce. I've never managed to do that either, the grouping always seems to defeat me and they sort of leap out of her head in an unsettling way. I should experiment further. Aye skin... it's proving a challenge. Even with access to SSS and absorption.
I'm not certain. Do I see a bit of translucence on the inner side of the upper rim of the year?
I hope so. The diffuse channel is transmissive, to a degree and scatters and absorbs (mostly blue and green so leaving red to go through more) - it is also mixed with glossy. The node looks like a horrible rats nest! I will send you an example soon.
Hey guys, me again :D Good to see this little thread is still rolling about.
The first installment of the Bryce artist features has just gone up http://digisprawl.com/blog/?p=299&preview=true
Watch out, you're next David.
