Interior Design

Hi,

I am new to Daz3D. Am looking to create an interior design. Originally I was going to use Sketchup but the quality of the rendering is quite low. Are there any tutorials for creating an interior design using Daz3D?

Many thanks.

Mark

What do you mean? Assuming you are looking at DAZ Studio, it can render and add humans to a scene but it isn't a modeller - if you are wanting to create a specific interior you will need a modelling application to create it, that can export to OBJ; however, if you want a generic interior then there are many pre-made sets around.

So could you model the room in Sketchup and then bring it into Daz?

some people have modelled extensive sets entirely inside Daz studio using primitives.
that is planes, spheres, cubes etc.
not the most efficient way to do it but nonetheless quite plausable.
opacity maps come in handy too.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to get a model from Sketchup to DS - I don't believe the free version of SU has an OBJ export option, though there are ways around that. The paid for version of SU does export OBJ, as far as I know, as do most modelling applications.

Mark, if you're trying to stick with free apps, Blender is (IMHO) significantly superior to Google Sketch-up, free, open-source, has a version that can be run from a USB jump drive, and you can easily make and export an interior to obj and import it into DAZStudio. Although previous versions were infamous for being difficult to use, the current version was redesigned for ease-of-use. It's well-documented and has a large community willing to help newbies. Thanks for the link Beth. I had heard of the portable version, but didn't know where to find it. ;-)
