Add AUTO-SAVE feature

I've been working on one render I've hard worked on in a rush, didn't have time to save it, and now just as i Rendered, DAZ just crashed right at the start of my render time! I was so upset now that all my hard work is lost and took me 30 minutes to make it

I think what DAZ REALLY LACKS, is the ability to Auto-save your work without having to constantly name a random file and just save it manually each time. I would hopefully appreciate that especially when it risks for your render to crash depending on your hardware even though it's ready, when there's no Auto-save, you'll loose all the hard work you done.

If you are being asked for a file name each tiem you save then you haven't entered an author name in Edit>Preferences (Daz Studio>Preferences on the Mac). DS will not do a silent save unless the name in the file matches the curent author name, toa void overwriting add-on content in error.

I already DID add in author name. I just didn't know if DAZ was able to do a silent save. But it's just crazy to just having to save  manually each time

If DAZ added it, I would probably want the option to disable it. However, there is a script in the store that will provide the functionality you seek.

How? If only I wish MCQ would make a script to have a Auto-save running in the background with a 1 or 5 minute interval creating a Auto-save file, i be a lot happier

I think the request os for a timed auto-save, or at least for a save before rendering (someone may have written a script for that).

YES THAT'S IT!!! That's what DAZ should've had. A timed auto save. But does anyone know who did the script?

  • Seconding the wish for an auto save. Heck, my 1995 copy of Lotus Smartsuite even has that! Yes, 1995 and I still use it. The dang Win 95 software is bulletproof and still runs on Win 8 and 10 if you tweak the install a bit. An autosave woule a lot, as Daz does tend to crash during rendering. It happens to me a lot, just like with the thread starter.

I believe that's how the script product I linked to works, though I don't think the time value itself is something that can be modified. I can't say for sure because I don't own it, and as I mentioned, the functionality isn't something I particularly want to use.

I wouldn't use this. From writing documents to photoshop - Daz saves can take a minute. Complicated scenes, at least.

The RENDERS do save if there's a crash during render. There's a temp (I even think it's called "temp render")  folder and I made a desktop shortcut and often pull from there.

I think, while working, you have to save often...I update the names of my sessions as in

"Room fight All together 01 -starter room empty"

"Room fight All together 02 - lights working"

"Room fight All together 03 - figures added"

"Room fight All together 04 - posed"

That way I can go backwards and start from an earlier set up in case I do something I simply can't undo.

Gotta build that save often habit.

For Windows, C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\Daz 3D\Studio4\Temp\Render as I recall. The AppData folder is hidden by default so you will need to enable the display of hidden files and folders.

Same here, I have no need for an autosave feature

    Agree.smiley

Plus, such auto-events tend to trigger at the worst possible times every now and then...frown
