You all used to have an Archieve file where one could Download Previous versions of DAZ, dont know why you abandoned that but please restore it.

At least give us the Option of Reinstalling DAZ 4.7; I am not at all a Fan of the IRAY engine. It makes everything glow in the  DARK. I go to the DAZ/Poser group almost Daily and the collection of Porcelian Dolls to be seen there is stunning. All Subtley is washed out. I know that it makes good financial sense for DAZ to try to force people to dump all thier pre 4.8 Content for new content. Uhm, Im not rebuying 8 years worth of content again any time soon, I know Im not alone on that score.

Quite Honestly DAZ has always been a scene creation tool for me, And Im sure alot of other people; the Real Creative work, the work I most truely enjoy is done in MS5. So I mostly use the BGL and IGL engines, but in your current Patch the IGL still just GLows. IRAY just not the Be all and End All; not for me and Im sure not alot of us. Please give us a Non IRAY option TY Tom.

Pretty sure I did Josh, but mucking about in the Dark I expect I messed things up good. Going to have to remove any the new lights tomorrow and try again.

The Lights I set in 4.7 where not affected by the new CTRL-L default; but those where across the Cafe, I was trying to recreate a private moment; a person I saw today at a Cafe I go to just a little "In Passing Study" I've done Dozens of them but this is the first since I "UpGraded to 4.9" on my new computer.  Any the Cam light should have been off as there where active lights on the set, but there was a massive difference between the BGL and IGL much more than I have ever seen before. BTW really cool Grey that dudes just Ugly. : )

I don't realy understand. You have the option to select 3delight instead of Iray in the render settings. Allmost all content I know of, comes with a choice of 3dl or Iray mats. Plus : 3dl renderer is told, to have become faster since 4.8. release as well. I never use 3dl, so I can't realy tell, if it's true. However you can still use 3delight in latest DS built.

  • 3DL  was not at all bad for time in 4.7; I have created 3DL layers before the time was not excessive. I may yet have too tweak settings for 4.9 but it certainly seems to add alot of unwanted light even to the IGL; which being optimized for Iray makes sense, but as my work tends to be a touch Noir; I almost always want the bare minium of light and prefer me view/render to be as close as possible.

  • Was thinking about this after I posted last night; and for a program that has always been marketed to beginners; its never been beginner freindly. IRAY certainly is not; nor is the new default ctrl-l off; have you ever considered a tiered offering. Like, Sculpris, zbrush core, zbrush.

    DAZ aka DAZ 4.7

DAZ plus add the rigging geometry rigging tools that most users wont touch for a year or two, if ever.

DAz Pro IRAY for one thing it might be easier to maintain documentation for the tier one program; which would evolve more slowly.

  • They actually have done the tiered product thing with an earlier version. They found that providing the more advanced capabilities for free in a single product release was easier than trying to convince people that wanted those features to buy them. As you said, the folks that don't want those features don't have to use them.

  • My thought with that was that it I would it would be easier to keep the Documentation of Intro Tier current. As I dont know your experiance with DAZ documentation but mine has been it tends to be obsolete and I learn most anything I need to learn about the product from U-Tube Videos by users, Posters at Devient Art; and these Forums. If the program was not trying to be all things to all users; that might catch up. Anyhow that was my thought there.

  • In theory that could happen, but in practice it often does not. In my experience with numerous applications, not just in 3D graphics but in my other hobby, having up to date documentation is not a guarantee that people won't ask questions and have discussions/debates/arguments about software features on forums, mailing lists or YouTube. In fact, one software developer I know actually didn't bother documenting his latest stuff because of the tendency of people to ignore the existence of the documentation from his previous stuff and ask questions on the mailing list. Another software package I use has in its included documentation ways of preventing certain problems and we still had one user demand that the development team "fix" things so he didn't have to use better quality cabling in his setup.

  • I would expect users will always create tutorials and all; but up to date docs would give u all; esp new users a solid baseline.

Still thanks for you time and answers Day.
