  • I've been having fun making my own glass shaders all morning.  I've already forgotten a few things about how to make some of the different types of shaders, but I think I remember enough to do the homework.  It's really interesting watching your own shaders take shape in a render.  There was SO much information, I'm a little bit on overload so I'll be happy when I get a chance to review the recording when we get it.  For the moment, though, I'm having loads of fun with what I remember.

    Haven't started with the homework yet, but you're right, there was so much information to digest!

    Thanks, Knittingmommy, for posting about the invisible light! You're perfectly right with your solution. I found that, depending on how transparent your light mesh is, you need to turn up the light intensity quite a lot. But it works fine, especially when used at some distance to other objects. If it's too close to an object you get "inexplicable" lighting - it baffles the mind to see a pool of light without any light source *g*.

    @esha  You're welcome.  That was something I picked up here in the forums somewhere when Iray first came out although I'm not sure where.  It is a handy trick that I've had to use on more than one occasion.  As for the overload, I'll survive.  It was a lot of good information and I learned a lot.  Eventually, it will all sink in.  I might have to watch the recordings a few more times, but totally worth the effort.  yes

    The bonus session is this Saturday at 20:00 GMT (London) 12:00 PST (Los Angeles) and 15:00 EST (New York). This will include taking a look at any work done on the homework set in session 2. I'll send out an email to everyone that registered with the webinar details.

    This looks great. When will it be in the store? And thanks for creating PDF's! English is my native language but I can never remember what was in the video by the time I try to use the information in DS and it's a pain to switch back and forth from video to DS. It would be great to have a PDF that I can follow along with on my iPad while actually using DS. When I play videos on my iPad, it is hard to see the details of what's going on especially since everyone uses a different UI layout and it's often hard to follow what is being clicked on and then you have to rewind, try to remember where certain info was in the video.

    I personally have no interest in a webinar but if this in the store with companion PDF documentation then I'm definitely interested! Please create more PDFs!!! I would LOVE PDFs about more esoteric things like geografting, subD, anything to do with content creation within DS and how to save things correctly (morph asset and all that other stuff under save) LIE, and all the more advanced stuff that is so hard to find documentation on! People say it's too time consuming to create PDFs but really, it's a series of screenshots with a couple of sentences in between, a lot less time consuming than creating a whole 3D set and would appeal to pretty much everyone!

    Hi Wonderland,

    To clarify the guide that will be included with the webinar is a 39 page Uber Shader Reference Guide. This has been created as "artist friendly" and is a complete visual guide to each of the PBR Metallicity/Roughness Properties, so it's not a transcript or booklet that provides the same teachings as the webinar.

    So this is a supplement created for the webinar by Esha acting as a handy reference, since there are so many properties to consider.

    Just wanted to share... here's the result of the changed map locations according to esha's suggestion in the final part of the webinar. It worked beautifully, and I am happy with the result. I didn't get very far with putting materials on the rest of the homework-scene, due to lack of time (RL is a bitch), but the main body of the pot was what I struggled with.

    Again, thank you for a great webinar. I learned a lot, and already signed up to the next one about Webcomics. I'd love to do the cloithing one, but I'm lightyears away from even thinking about doing clothes, so I'll keep practicing my shaders instead.

    Looks like it should be included - Details say:

                 1) Master reference Uber Shader Reference Guide. This has been created as "artist friendly" and is a complete visual guide to each of the PBR Metallicity/Roughness Properties.

    I'm guessing it was an over-sight in the packaging.  I will mention it to Digital Art Live.

    I'd love to pick this up but still waiting on you folks to send DAZ the first part of the HD Version file .z01 from your Refined Rigging : Clothing Case Studies tutorial.  Well over a month now waiting for this to be resolved.  They gave me a DropBox link but that's locked down and I don't know what the password would be to unlock it to get the needed file.  Quite annoyed with this whole mess.  So when this is resolved I'll buy this one too and hope that the downloads are set up correctly! Thanks!

    Hi RAMWolff. I'm working with DAZ on this to render a smaller sized HD video file for customers and will have this done by this weekend- my apologies for the delay on this.

    Thanks.  Was kinda wild to download 4 900 Meg files that needed to be unzipped together.  I have a 33" monitor so I don't need the finished file to be able to be viewed on a 60" TV but you never know, there may be folks that have monitors/TV's that large.  My eyes aren't that bad yet!  lol

    I finally got around to watching the whole tutorial. I just want to say thanks to Esha and DAL for this. I've found it really useful. You're right that you learn so much when you don't just listen in but try to put it into practice with your own examples. I didn't do the homework as such, but, I have created my own version of the brocade using Esha's mesh on the drapes. I remade the Fleur de Lis as a vector so as not to lose quality so I could enlarge it form my new profile pic at DA.

    Thanks for this tutorial. I finally got my hands on it. I appreciate the pdf, that's a big plus.
