Only shadows visible?

Is it possible to turn everything invisible in a render except shadows? I did a fantastic render, then discovered my light source had shadows turned off, so I'm just trying to re-render with the shadows. I turned shadows on for my light, I have a plane to cast shadows onto, and under the parameters for all my figures I have "Visible in Render" set "Off", but "Cast Shadows" set "On". That doesn't seem to work. Is there any way to make that work, or will I have to re-render the whole scene?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Apply Uber Surface to all the items and your figure. In Surfaces Tab set the Fantom ON for all items. Now render. the Items disapper but the shadows fall as they should. I used that to do this....
