    Hi there!

Here`s some previews for the next Easy Environments set "Outback".
I hope those who asked for the theme didn`t die of age yet. ;)

Actually I wanted to name the set a tad more unspecific, since I think it could also pass as american western style thing, but I paniced about hurting some Aussie feelings with inappropriate naming (uninitiated european, can`t be careful enough...). ;)

    Anyway, hope you like it!

will the outback be a standalone or does it require another product to work?

I don't have any of the environments yet..

    thanks Wara tah ;-)

Well, I think skyboxes and landscapes will remain a big part of many of my future sets. I just want to do more complex stuff with it.

...Will that be one of the PA items in the PC Anniversary this month?

Probably ;) Right now I am waiting for release date info myself.

....These sets have been amazing for my promos.
Thanks! Really, it`s great to see them used on your store pages, and I am glad you find them easy to work with.
It would have been kinda embarrassing to name products "easy whatever" and get a ton of complaints from people despairing over them. ;)

I wouldn't say no to an LV-426 type of 'desolate planet' environment with bone-like rocks, some day - would be just perfect for wrecked spaceships. :D

Grr, that`s a tempting idea, I have a weak spot for everything Giger-style (see alien cave)

Considering October 22nd is reputedly known as Wombat Day according to Wikipedia, it would be great to get this new set ahead of that date ;) Now I just have to find a decent Bunyip to drop in it.....

For ideas about the desolate landscape planet surface like LV-246 suggested above, consider 'The Pinnacles' just north of Perth for some inspiration? I have to admit, it'd be another one of your sets I'd snap up if you did it.

In actually the process of making an 'Alien'-themed motion comic with Daz and LOVED the Alien Cave. It's going to feature prominently. :) Most beautifully authentic Giger-esque cavern I've seen and was one of my first purchases!

Out of interest, is there an alternative texture or other method to turn off the small 'lights' along the interior wall? It's been a while since I was test rendering with it and can't recall.

Not a one-click way. You can get rid of the "luminance" by turning the ambient strength to zero and/or removing the ambient textures. That could be quickly done on DS by selecting all materials together, on Poser it`d be a bit more work selecting all mats seperately.
However, the color on the spots would remain white, only way to get rid of that would be to stamp it away on the textures (if you do that best do it on copies, not to ruin the originals).

Thanks for the inspirations brad & Totte! That lethal lake is real is it? On first sight I thought it`s a photoshop thing.

Lol, who would have thought there is such a thing as a Wombat Day?
Got info from Daz, "Outback" is targeted to release early next week, just in time for Wombat celebrations ;)

Something interesting I ran into last night while using one of the skybox's. The latest version of 4.6 you can use per pixel shading in the viewport (Preferences/interface). It gives a better indication of what the scene will look like when rendered. I was using it and found the regular lights are portrayed better than before though I didn't find it gobsmacking. It's probably my video card. If I use a background image it flashed the background on and off as I moved around the scene. (No, not the same as the surface selector). I got used to it though.

But when I loaded up a skybox, it turned black and stayed black. Renders fine, of course, but I just can't see to rotate it around for the best view for my scene. So I turned off the new feature temporarily.

Just a HU if it happens to you don't panic.

Thanks for the info Spit. It seems I don`t have the most recent 4.6 yet, at least I didn`t find the option.
It could be a matter of camera distance, maybe it`s limited on a more advanced preview lighting.

Another preview image for Outback >

nice one - I customised the lighting a bit (kept sun but swapped-out others for advanced ambient light)

I couldn't resist doing a quick one as well... off the beaten track somewhere past Kalgoorlie on a nice Sunday drive. It's not the Drop Bears you gotta worry about, it's the little wigglies sunning themselves.

Can't wait to do some SF renders with this backdrop.

Agreed, should work well. Just to remind, you can change the ambient color on those skyboxes. A little bit of red tint should make for a nice Mars setting.

And here's some horses. I saw a documentary a few years ago about some wild horses in Australia. I didn't know there were any down there. One of the guys in charge of keeping tabs on them had caught and trained one and it was his main riding horse now. All I remember about that was that the guy said that horse would kill for him.

    anyway.....

They got there the same way the camels did.*

Run out of time to play with this tonight, I'll get it installed in the morning.

    * (Yes, camels. They were apparently considered the most suitable haulage critter in the early exploration of the Big Scary Unknown interior of the continent. They survived in the wild so well there are more wild camels in Australia now than anywhere else in the world.)

cosmo, the added street really makes me happy, it`s cool to see that the way the sets are mapped is used like that.

thank you for these great set(s). Well to add the road took a view minutes with a graphic program, have copied the trail image and cut off the street from the street image form a curious bus and added it to the copied trail image, ready, the same with the bump map :) quite easy :). Have used the road also for other renders with base textures from first bastion (here the link to the image with a self build landscape from rocky flats expension : http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/220/P60 (last image on that site)

the set works so well because of the geometry also, because of the slightly hilly environment and the curve of the trail there is no need to have a road in the distant on the backround ;) you know that :)
