A special tattoo...

Hi all.

I'm looking for full back tattoo similar to the attached image for Daz G3F, G2F, but of a realistically patterned leopard positioned mirrorwise (or maybe both options) in b&w (maybe color options also). It should have the left paw on top of the character's left shoulder with claws visible from front view, and the tail long enough to wrap to the right side, around the waist to curl around the navel.

Is there any out there, or can someone develop it?

All you do is create a layer in LIE on the relevant Surfaces(s) and paste, scale, and rotate the image into place. You may want to slightly blur the edges though as most tatoos that I've ever seen fade at the edges.

  • Thanks  for that tip, Nonesuch00! I still need the actual graphic, plus I'm a novice in Daz and don't know how to create assets. Can anyone draw the described leopard for me?

With LIE, I strongly suspect you may have seam issues.  Without looking that sounds like it may 'impact' upon more than one surface area, not to mention down the middle of the back.  The G3F surfaces look to be 'more forgiving', with the Torso surface area covering more and being broader on the shoulder, than the G2M surfaces; which might require some 'creep' of the image into the arm and hip surfaces.

As for the actual image - why not create it yourself with a render?

You will have to draw your tatoo on paper or electronically yourself. You could print out your example and trace it and then scan it into a vector SVG format to convert to png format.

The example I posted is copyrighted so I wouldn't use that. I have already searched the internet of images and haven't found the right match, or I would need to be able to draw well.... Plus positioning the paw and tail in the manner I've described... you have to know how to make that so it sits well on a character. I don't. That's what this forum is for. I've seen some wonderful members out there who offer to draw/create assets, so I'm crossing my fingers... Is anyone up for the challenge? I know it's not as complex as creating hair.

If you search for school sports team logos those are usually public domain as they all just copied them off one another way, way back...

You could also buy one of the Tiger / Lion / Jaguar cats from the DAZ Store and render it using the pwToon or LineRender9000 shaders.

There is another advantage to doing that...you can place the cat, scale, position and pose it in place where you want the tatoo to be.  Then set the figure you want it to be for, invisible before rendering.

  • Hm! Nonsuch00, I admit I didn't know what you meant by "LIE"  earlier, not every novice knows all the acronyms here. But I'm seeing possibilities now with the latest comments and will be experimenting my way through. Thanks everyone!  I will keep you updated  ;)

LIE = Layered Image Editor...a built in image layering function.

Sorry, I should have known to say Layered Imaged Editor in DAZ Studio - as it took me a few hours of reading which I first started with DAZ Studio to realized L.I.E. comes from with DAZ Studio and not a product I need to buy out of the DAZ Store.

  • You will have to put the texture onto the UV map for the figure you want it for- the seam mention will be an issue since the VU is split right down the middle of the back.  My full back tattoos are done in Blacksmith after I work them in photoshop and projection mapped onto the back.  Then I have to go in and fix the blending at the seams since the bleed causes issues.  It can be done, but not with LIE directly unless you want one side or the other and not the entire back.

  • Ok, thanks for the tip, DarwinsMishap.
