How to animate HDRI Dome rotation?

I'm looking to create keyframes for rotations of the HDRI dome. I only know how to set this in Render Settings, which cannot be changed on a per-frame basis.

  • might be easier to parent your whole scene, lights and camera to a nul and rotate that.

Definitely...the 'dome' is not 'physical'.  It doesn't have geometry or anything to be able to keyframe.

Doesn't that new spherical camera in the latest DAZ Studio Public Beta do a 360 render? Someone from the forums, Madcatlady or something like that did such a render and uploaded to youtube and in the top left hand corner are 4 arrows that go up & down, left & right for a 360 view.

  • those arrows come from injecting the mp4 with metadata so youtube embeds it as a 360 video

I have a thread on it in the Carrara forum

Looks like dome settings aren't recordable in the animation timeline... which would be a bug. You may want to send in a ticket to Daz about it. If a setting can get stored in the scene file, it should be recordable in an animation timeline.

I don't use animation for such things, but I will use a single file to store multiple "frames," like different camera angles and poses. It's a real PITA when settings don't get saved for a frame, should you need to go back to the file for an update.

  • Looks like there's a work-around. Instead of rotating the HDRI dome, rotate everything else instead. Just group the camera and the objects involved, then rotate the group on the Y-axis. You may have to adjust the position of the Y-axis in Joint Editor so that the group remains in the centre.
