Trouble with IM Settings

Hi,
for download and installation I have chosen special paths on my data partitions in the IM settings.
For a certain time these settings work well.
But after updates of IM some of those updates seem to reset my individual settings to the DAZ defaults --> System partition C:
Dear DAZ-Team: PLEASE STOP THIS !!!
Please respect: System partition C: is System only!
It also is useful for security aspects.
This should become your new standard.
Thank you for your attention.

Moved to technical Help as it isn't about Daz Studio.
I have never had this happen - are you sure you didn't create a new account for DIM isntead of logging in to your existing account?
Hi Richard,
sorry, but I know very well, what I do.
btw:
Why did you move the post? Isn't DIM part of DAZ ??
I suppose, the DAZ community should know about this.
No, DIM is independent of Daz Studio.
Did you lose any other settings in DIM that you had changed from default? Sort order, download filters, install or application locations?
Daz Studio Discussion is for Daz Studio, DIM is a separate application and not part of Daz Studio as such (it can be used by people who have only Poser, Carrara, or Bryce - even by people who have purchased only some of Ron's Photoshop brushes).
I'm not sure what the Daz community should know about - this is not a weidespread issue, I have never heard of it before that I can recall. I suspect that it is something losing the fiel thats tores your account settings so that you are effectively creating a new account even if you are not doing so explicitly. That being so, the next question would be what security software are you using?
Now I know, when it happened.
It is DAZ related, because the reset of my individual paths happened when I upgraded to DAZ4.9.
Now I have to fight with the mess !!
I had to manually remove the install packages from C: to my data HD. As a consquence out of this, all installed products (right from my beginning with DAZ4.5) now appear as not installed.
Why should the reset of paths in DIM be related to security software? Looks like you're groping around in the dark.
Due to PostgrSQL I had to open my system wide - removal of all security.
Installing DS 4.9 should not - and for the majority did not - affect the paths used by and stored in DIM. A freshly isntalled Beta, if you haven't used one before, will need its paths customised if you are not using the defaults.
Moving the Downloads folder, if that's what you mean, will not affect whether or not DIM sees items as installed - but the Manifests folder, which sat alongside the default location of the Downloads folder, is used to see what is installed. The DIM UI does not give a way to move the Manifests (or Thumbnails) folder, but you can do it manually by editing the C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts\Account.ini file, the line
OverrideManifestDir=YourPath
with / used as the folder separator.
If that isn't what you meant it may be that you had a database issue - were you previously using Velantina? If so did you "install" the Valentina to PostgreSQL conversion utility (which actually makes a PostgreSQL version of the Valentina database, corruption permitting, as it is run by DIM)?
I suggested security software as the first thing to check as it would be the obvious suspect if something was deleting or blocking access to the C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts\Account.ini file (which would be one way for customised settings to be lost).
PostgreSQL does not require that you remove security - except that it has not, in the past, worked with Zone ALarm (I believe htis may now have been addressed). Beyond that, Daz Studio and DIM need to be able to communicate with PostgreSQL using the Internet protocol, but the access is restricted to the local machine only - they do not need web access (DIM obviously needs web access if you use it to download, and DS if you use Connect or particpate in the product improvement programme, but it is not needed for the Content Management System).
This part is true of any database software....block it from all network activity on the local machine/network and it will quit working properly.
Ah,
after using 4.9 DAZ and PostrgSQL only worked after removing the security.
But as long as I didn't notice, that DIM was downloading to my space limited system SSD, all content was properly shown as installed.
Only after the removal from my system SSD (merged into the existing downloaded files on my data drive with the earlier downloads), DIM ran into that trouble.
As far as I see, PostgrSQL only runs if DAZ is active. But most time I used DIM while DAZ was down, so was PostgrSQL. But DIM ever worked properly even without PostgrSQL.
OK,
so now I see whrere DIM stores the manifest files. --> C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ManifestFiles
And yes - that's the reason for the trouble. For all my other 480 packages they are on my data drive.
But I don't want to have a program accessing the system drive without my permission. Especially not to deposit data on it !
OK, ini file found and reworked, latest manifest files moved
and everything's fine, as far as I see now.
Thank you.
