Hello. When somone has a moment, do you know how to permenently delete the sub-categories of the "Default" directory under the content manager categories? I use Daz 4.5.1.6 and every time I manually delete sub-categoreis such as "accessories," "anatomy," "animals," etc, they keep coming back after I restart Daz Studio.

AFAIK you can't. I set up my own categories outside of Default, and leave Default for metadata.

Interesting, cridgit, thanks for the info. I assume that if you already have items installed in some of those categories, they'll still be there even if you remove the categories from rootcategories.txt

You need to edit the RootCategories.txt file in C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\resources.

If you can't edit this file directly, copy it somewhere else, make your changes, then move your edited copy back into the above folder and overwrite the existing file. Next time you start Studio your default categories will be changed.

Note that if you install a product with metadata in Default, the relevant categories will re-appear until you re-categorize them.

Also, if you install an update to DS, it will overwrite the altered file with the default one. The easiest way around that is to keep a copy of the edited file elsewhere...then just drop a copy of it over the 'default' file after the update.

You can add your own categories to the file making them 'defaults', too.

There's other fun things you can do by hacking the files in the resources folder (up to an including 'breaking' DS so it won't run...so keep backup copies of those files).
